God is Faithful – Are we?
1Chronicles 6-9 God is Faithful
Do you get frustrated with the endless list of genealogy in these chapters as I do? Yet, because of the diligence of the chronicler, we see the fruit of God’s promise to the command to be fruitful and multiply. There are some families that have an abundance of children and some who did not. Some men were valiant warriors and others—we are left to wonder. Then he reminds us that the Levites were faithful to care for the spiritual needs of the people.
In the midst of all of this are the five faithful daughters of Zelophehad who went to Moses to seek their deceased father’s inheritance since they had no brothers. They are listed five times in the OT to their credit. They are an example of “woman power.” 🙂 They were savvy in the midst of seemingly insurmountable odds in that patriarchal society where men ruled and women were not noted except as bearers of children.
Take away from all of this? First how thankful I am for the diligence of the chronicler! Second I can see these records give the nation of Israel a sense of belonging in a world that seeks to destroy their lineage and heritage.
God is faithful, are we?
