Whom do you fear?

Luke 22 We once again meet the word “afraid”  in this chapter. The religious leaders were not afraid of God but of the people. This is a sad commentary on their hearts and their understanding of both scripture and God’s ways. They had been given the rights and privileges of education and they knew the Torah. What led them astray? Why were they fearful of the people.?

It is into this scene we find not just Judas, the betrayer but also the disciples whose focus was not on the Last Supper with the Master but on their pettiness when they argued about who was the greatest. This is how the work of Satan is done. Paul rightly noted that the god of this world blinds the minds so that one cannot see the glory of Christ. And it is into all of this we read the religious leaders were afraid of the people. Truly the Proverbs writer said it best: the fear of people is a snare but he who trusts in the Lord will be exalted. [Proverbs 29:25]

Precious reader, where has the evil one, the god of this world, infiltrated your thinking so that you cannot see the glory of Christ? Take time to day to turn your fears into the action of trusting God.
