The fool and the Lazy

Proverbs 25-26. These two chapters teach us about the fool and the lazy. The first half of Prov 26 refers to the fool, and the remaining verses speak to the lazy. We can glean much from Solomon through the words he recorded. Did Solomon glean these wise sayings from what transpired in his courtroom as he watched and listened? He noted one glaring principle: the fool is a fool because he has rejected the wise counsel of him who is wise.

He asks us three questions: (1) Why would you take counsel from the fool? To do so is your folly. (2) Why would you try to train the fool by trying to lead him or counsel him? So he only learns the hard way (by whip or rod). (3) Why would you send the fool on a journey with a message when you know that it will either be lost or rehearsed incorrectly? The bottom line is that we can learn much about fools in these chapters so that we do not become one ourselves.

Then Solomon records what he learned from the sluggard or lazy people. They are lazy and refuse to work! Paul later said that he who is lazy and won’t work should not benefit from the toil of others. They are habitually lazy!

We have met people like this who think they are wise but their attitude and behavior, and yes, sometimes, their countenance reveal their lot in life.

Take counsel from Solomon, the wisest man of his time.
