2 Samuel 1-4 David honors the dead

Turmoil in the kingdom! There are men who think killing an enemy for David are to be praised but David reminds them that killing the anointed of God is not praiseworthy. Revenge is never the answer to life’s problems. Just like men killing Jesus thought that men would praise them, but it has turned around and has not since then been seen as praiseworthy. In fact, it has come about that the crucifixion and then the Resurrection of Jesus has brought many to the kingdom of God. The Pharisees thought the people and God would be pleased but they were mistaken. The crucifixion of Jesus came about because of the eternal plan of God just as is said in the OT.
David sought to bring peace to the land but others had other ideas and so his lament is a key point in this scenario. It reminds us that God is never pleased with the death of others. In fact in Ezekiel, God reminds us that He is never pleased, even with the death of the wicked. That is because death is final and there is no turning back time.
