Sanctification and Blessing
Numbers 4-6 The Lord Spoke
Again God, the Lord God Almighty, is front and center in our reading. In chapter 4, the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron about tearing down the Tabernacle for proper transport. In chapter 5, the Lord spoke to Moses about lepers and jealous husbands and how a wife will be known for her purity or defilement. In chapter 6, the Lord spoke to Moses about the Nazarite vow. In all three chapters, the Lord spoke the words which came to him from the Lord.
How often do we wonder who and what is the authority? God left no stone unturned about each aspect. God is holy, and He expects His people to be the same. Therefore, all three chapters speak about that which they had not encountered in Egypt. Now they needed preparation for entering the Promised Land, and they must be a people who are sanctified, set apart for His service.
Sanctification is the work of the Holy Spirit, who takes what was once unholy and makes us a holy separated people fit for the kingdom of God. It is a process from our first step into salvation until we take that last step into eternity. So first, God desired that His people be sanctified, then the nation, and last the material things such as the Tabernacle.
Finally, the Lord spoke to Moses to bless Aaron and his sons. We call this the Aaronic Blessing.
