Promises & Restoration

God and His promises

Amos 9 God, the Everlasting Father, promises are secure from when He spoke them to now. He will judge sin, but he will restore what has He has judged. “the Lord your God will reverse your captivity and have pity on you. He will turn and gather you from all the peoples among whom he has scattered you.” [Deu 30:3] As we watch from the sidelines, we see many returning to the land of their ancestors.

As Amos saw the ever-changing landscape and the hardness of the hearts of King Jeroboam and the priest Amaziah, he could understand why the people were so sinful. When a leader is ungodly we see the fruit: When there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but the one who keeps the law, blessed is he!” [Prov 29:18]

Even in this hard time, Amos did not stop at this understanding. He was steadfast in his prayers for the people and their rulers. Do we quit praying when it seems that all seems without hope and our nation is floundering OR do we increase our prayers? “The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some regard slowness, but is being patient toward you because he does not wish for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”[2Pe 3:9]

Who knows, but God may alter our nation to turn back to Him because we are faithful to pray
