Judges 3-6 God’s test

Long ago and far away are these stories of the Israelites. The title is fitting, for

God is the righteous judge and He tests His children to see if they would obey Him. We sometimes forget that He employs testing of our hearts, minds and actions. He even tells us why He does this through the example of the chosen ones of Israel: ‘They were for testing Israel, to find out if they would obey the commandments of the LORD, which He had commanded their fathers through Moses.” [Judges 3:4] As He did it for Israel, He does it for us. God is looking for those who love Him wholeheartedly and will be obedient to him. Joshua and Caleb were fitting examples of this but, sadly, the whole of Israel were not. How about us? We have the false idea that if all goes well, then we will obey and be blessed but that is not the case according to scripture.

So the next time a situation occurs that is tough, stop and think: is this a test from the Lord to see if we will obey Him? Ask self if that is true, will I be found as one who passes the test so I can hear in eternity: well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord.
