10.29.24. Be Alert!

The fools go both ways

2 John 1 Rejoicing and Warnings

The Apostle John now writes a letter, which is much like the notes written during the war where notes were written to disguise the writer and its recipients. We do not know who this lady was.  Was she a real lady or is John writing to a church and his notes are to protect and give wise counsel? We wonder, but we trust the Spirit has written and the words that are read are inspired by the HIM to give life and promise.

John rejoices that the recipient has children who are walking in truth, but in the same vein he is warning them against the deceivers who will seek to come and destroy. This reminds us of that verse in another book that reminds us that the path of the evil one is this: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” [John 10:10]  The contrast is clear, be on guard and be diligent to remain steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your work is not in vain. [1 Cor 15:58] Cling to the One who gives life! Cling to the One who has inspired these words of life and wise counsel.

Where today do you need to be on guard?
