1 John 4 Test the Spirits

What does it mean to test the spirits? John is warning the church that there are other spirits beside the Holy Spirit. Only He, the Holy Spirit confesses Jesus as Christ is the True and Mighty Holy Spirit. That is the first test of proof.

Today we have false religions who are leading others astray. If we want to know if they are true believers and followers of Christ, just ask them the question: Who is the Christ.  Yet, as simple as that is, many are swept into the false religions of the world that say they worship Jesus but if asked, they deny He is the Christ. So what does it mean to say Jesus is the Christ? One must acknowledge CHRIST, n. THE ANOINTED; an appellation given to the Savior of the World, and synonymous with the Hebrew Messiah.

As Paul testified these are the words he used: “explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and to rise from the dead, saying, “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Christ.” Is this what we proclaim? How about other religions? Jesus asked the question: “Who do you say I am?” The Holy Spirit asks the same question of us. What does your spirit say about Him? Rather than accept a man’s words, what does the inspired word reveal about what he believes? Do your listening ears hear more than what is required and do you hear words that are not in the inspired word? Listen carefully and be discerning  or as John said; test the spirits.
