Psalm 119 Statements & Precepts

The longest psalm in the psalter is this one which is penned with prayers, one of which is “Open my eyes so I can truly see the marvelous things in your law.” As I begin each day in my quiet time I often ask God to do just that so that upon reading, I can reflect on the Spirit’s leading to do aright. How do you open your quiet time? Do you read first and then pray or pray first and then read?

Another word the psalmist used is “precept.” It is used over and over for emphasis because it is an injunction to listen and obey. The psalmist wrote: “Help me to understand what your precepts mean, then I can meditate on your marvelous teachings.” And as I delve into my quiet time I often find I am echoing those same words back to God.

What are your thoughts that stand strong from this chapter?
