Solution to the Enemy Problem
Nehemiah 4-6 Enemies without and within
Every day we face the onslaught of our enemy, Satan. When God opens doors for us to work, as He did for Nehemiah, Satan seeks to come in and destroy. Satan does his work both without and within. If he can’t win using unbelievers, he will try to win using the people of God. And so we see how this works.
From the outside, there are agitators who seek to undermine our confidence. From inside, there are extortions seeking to gain monetarily from the hardship of those who are the poor. The real test is how not just to face these trials but to walk through them knowing God is there in our midst. And one of the ways we handle these mini-crises is through prayer, just as Nehemiah did. He poured out his heart to the Lord. First, tell God what is happening: hear O God how we are despised. Secondly, implore God to be the avenger. Nehemiah was claiming the promise given to Abraham that those who bless us will receive a blessing, and those who curse us will be cursed. [Gen 12:1-3] Thirdly, do as Nehemiah did, take precautions.
Today, our enemy is busy seeking whom he can devour. [1Pet 5:8]. We must earnestly plead our case before God and stand back and watch Him work.
Are you in a spiritual battle today? Follow Nehemiah’s example and see God work.
