Luke 7 Presumptuous
Luke 7 Presumptuous!
We hear a lot about gender these days. We also hear a lot about those who are homeless. How often do we make assumptions about one’s place in society, or also presume that they are headed to heaven or hell based on how they are dressed, where they live or other criteria. Jesus did not look on the outward but the inward.
One evening Jesus was invited to dine with a Pharisee and so, as is customary, he took his place at the table. While there, a woman entered with an alabaster jar of perfume. She bent down and began to wipe his feet with her tears, kissed them and anointed them with the perfume. While this was happening, the Pharisee was pondering about why Jesus would let her do this to his feet. Did he not take note of her condition: a woman and a sinner. How presumptuous! Like this Pharisee, we often assume based on outward appearances.
Beware of judging another based on outward appearances. Do not presume but get the facts.
