Broken Records or
Deut 4 Faithfulness
Over and over, Moses tells the Israelites to pay attention. Yet, the nation is like a broken record grumbling about the very same issues over and over and over. They grumbled over the manna; they grumbled over the lack of water; they grumbled over Moses’ choice of a wife, and on and on and on. It never ceases to amaze us of the patience of God, but sadly, when we look at our own lives, we also are like a broken record. No matter how much God did in our past, we find ourselves a grumbling discontented lot. God forgive us!
But God has a way to change that record! Stop and recall the past and what God had done. He created out of nothing. He spoke to them from the fire on the mountain. He had Moses teach them the Great Ten Commandments as a reminder of what He required. He reminded them that “today realize and carefully consider that the Lord is God in heaven above and on earth below—there is no other.” [Deut 4:39]
It is time to stop and consider all that God has done and look ahead to what He has planned for our future. He is God, and He will not change His mind. He was faithful before and will be faithful again. He asks: Do you love the Lord your God with your whole mind, your whole being, and all your strength? [Deut 6:5]
